Posted on Posted in News, Research

Did you know that, from June 29th, it will be mandatory for eBay sellers who have or want to list an item’s condition as “new” to include details such as the brand, MPN (manufacturer part number) and GTIN (global trade item number). This is typically your products barcode.

Effected categories are listed here:

  • Baby
  • Books
  • Business & industrial (Test, Lab, and Office Equipment)
  • Cameras & Photos
  • Cell Phones & Accessories
  • Clothing, Shoes & Accessories (Shoes only)
  • Computers/Tablets & Networking
  • Consumer Electronics
  • DVDs & movies
  • eBay Motors
  • Health & Beauty
  • Home & Garden (Tools and Appliances only)
  • Baby
  • Music
  • Musical Instruments & Gear
  • Pet Supplies
  • Sporting Goods
  • Toys & Hobbies
  • Video Games & Consoles

**This change will not apply to sellers who have items listed as used, collectible, vintage, or one-of-a-kind.

The goal for any online marketplace is to ensure product authenticity; and the changes to be implemented by eBay will benefit both seller and consumer. For consumers: it will ensure buyer confidence the services on offer. And for the sellers: product identifiers and item details will improve listing accuracy, maximise item views, search engine ranking and eBay search visibility.

ChannelUnity customers can ensure they are ready for this change by checking that they have Barcode, Brand and Manufacturer Part Number mapped for all products in these categories.
